Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi

Elder statesman who served Sir Ahmadu Bello as private secretary and later chaired the Arewa Consultative Forum.

Their work

Sunday Awoniyi (1932–2007) served as private secretary to Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, and rose to become one of the federation’s most senior permanent secretaries.

A Yoruba Christian from Kogi chosen to chair the pan-Northern Arewa Consultative Forum from 2003 until his death, he embodied the bridge-building ideal of the generation that built Northern Nigeria’s institutions.

Their ABU connection

An alumnus of the University community of its founding era, Awoniyi remained devoted to the institutions Sir Ahmadu Bello established, including the University that bears his name.
